Variable Data Printing & Scratch Cards

Winners and losers

First things first – scratch cards need some winners and some losers, right? So by definition, you already need a variable data print run.

What is variable data printing? Variable data printing is a method whereby a database of small changes is fed into a computer and this is translated into the digital printer. For example, you have a print run of 100 cards of the same design, but 10 need to be winners, and 90 need to be losers – a variable data print run will facilitate this outcome, without the need for multiple new designs. As such, variable data is absolutely crucial for scratch card designs.

Multiple prizes

But just having a few winning cards isn’t particularly groundbreaking. Why not make your marketing campaign all the more interesting and enticing by offering multiple prizes, with individuals cards for each prize? In other words, instead of your 100 card print run offering 10 winners and 90 losers, you could further individualise the 10 winning cards with their own prize.

You could make the winning scratch cards have different icons (if you’re going for the classic match-3-casino-game style of scratch card) or even offer different prizes under the scratch off latex panel. With variable data printing, it’s totally up to you how many different graphics or pieces of text there are under those panels!

Specific customers

As well as creating winners and losers, you can also tailor-make your scratch cards to different customers. Say you’re sending out a scratch card competition to your entire database of loyal customers… Why not employ a variable data print run to reveal the customer’s specific name, favourite product, free gift or discount code? This will ultimately charm your client base and lead to further customer loyalty.
